Participate, Improve Your Fiction, Increase Your Profile as a Writer, and Get Published

The Australian Literature Review has a number of ways in which fiction writers around Australia can participate, improve your fiction, increase your public profile and get published.

Enter a short story competition (click here)

Submit a 1,000-3,000 word teen/young adult story by midnight April 20th or a 1,000-3,000 word story using the theme ‘troubled family relationship’ by midnight May 20th. Win feedback from fiction writing and publishing professionals, as well as other prizes.

Submit a short story for publication in an anthology (click here)

Submit a 4,000-10,000 word Christmas horror story for Ho Ho Horror: Christmas Horror Fiction by midnight September 30th. Earn royalties for your story and see your work in bookstores.

Attend a book launch for Australian Literature: A Snapshot in 10 Short Stories (click here)

Come along for a three hour all-you-can-eat buffet dinner and chat with some of the authors and the editor/publisher. A $50 ticket includes dinner; a copy of the book; and three hours to chat about the anthology, the craft and business of business of fiction writing, future AusLit projects, etc. Pick up some tips and learn first-hand about writing opportunities.

Apply to join a writing team (project running from May 1st to September 30th) – Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Central Coast (click here)

Each team member will write two 5,000-10,000 word stories as part of an integrated story collection for commercial publication as part of a writing team, over 5 months. Send two or more samples of your writing along with a little about your main fiction writing interests to to apply to join a writing team in Sydney, Melbourne, the Gold Coast or the Central Coast (just north of Sydney) – nothing fancy required; all that is needed is an indication of what you’ve written and what kinds of stories you’d like to write. You don’t need to be perfect; you need to have potential to write good stories. Hone your writing skills, have fun and get your stories commercially published.
