I have mentioned previously that I split the 50,000 word total for my NaNoWriMo novel into four sections of 12,500 words each. Two sections are now done – two to go.
Without giving too much away, I can tell you that Michael and Amy, having been separated from the adults at the end of section one, have learned a few things about survival in the Ghanaian jungle. They have also made a perhaps unlikely friend in a roloway monkey. The monkey brings them to its group, where they befriend the monkeys as well as care for one which is injured.
Section three will feature Michael and Amy’s friendship with the roloway monkeys as they nurse the injured monkey. During their time with the monkeys, Michael and Amy will each learn more about themself and each other.
This is a chance for me to further develop Michael and Amy’s emotional relationship with one another and each begin to understand new things about themselves and make some adolescent growth amidst their extraordinary circumstances as they begin to lay new groundwork for their adult lives ahead. Freed from the immediate concerns of survival, Michael and Amy are able to find a new honesty and level of understanding with one another.
But danger looms… ready to escalate in the fourth and final section.
