Want to write a novel?

If you want to write a novel but have not yet gotten it written, this could be the added incentive you need.

Buy On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King, Novelist’s Essential Guide to Crafting Scenes by Raymond Obstfeld or Gold by Isaac Asimov for your chance to win one of the other books.

Those who purchase one of the selected books through one of the links below by the end of September can email the first 1-3 chapters (up to 5000 words) of a work in progress or finished manuscript to auslit@hotmail.com by the end of October and one person’s work will be selected to receive detailed feedback from The Australian Literature Review based on ideas from the three books and elsewhere. (These chapters will not be posted on the site.)

Just click on one of the book covers below and purchase either On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft ($16.95), Novelist’s Essential Guide to Crafting Scenes ($22.97) or Gold ($17.99) then email your order number to auslit@hotmail.com by midnight September 30th. Add a note if you already own one of the books and would prefer to win the remaining book that you do not already own and did not just purchase.

A winner for each book will be notified on Oct 1st.

In each of these books, the author has written about a lot of practical ideas and demonstrated their usefulness in relation to examples of published fiction. On Writing and Novelist’s Essential Guide to Crafting Scenes have each been written by an experienced fiction author who has had dozens of novels and many short stories published, and has taught creative writing classes for numerous years prior to writing their book on writing fiction. Asimov was an extremely prolific author of novels, short stories and non-fiction prior to Gold, a collection of short stories and essays on the craft of fiction, being put together.

Good luck and happy writing.

Unfortunately I already own “On Writing”, but for those that don’t have these books, it’s a great opportunity!

    • auslit says:

You raise a good point about those who already own one of the two books.
Issac Asimov’s Gold has been added as a third book to cater for more people, and provides an extra chance to win for those don’t own any of the three books.

  2. Jacob Martin says:

Just entered this competition, I hope my entry is good enough.

Looking at the full version of the manuscript I can see where some parts of my revisions missed the mark. But the original draft sometimes contains the best ideas in terms of bones. I already own “On Writing” by Stephen King but I still want to enter!
